A hill station, located in Western Ghats range, attracts many tourists, both local and foreigners.
It is a popular holiday resort and important pilgrimage site for Hindus. The Venna lake is quite famous for boating.
There is a fort named Pratapgad, near Mahabaleshwar. Built by Shivaji Maharaj, it is of huge historical significance.
I have been to Mahabaleshwar many times. It is quite close to Pune. I have gone with my family and also my college friends. It was great time, when all of us had gone for a whole day at the beginning of semester. There are usually no lectures at the start of semester, hence it felt rejuvenating to start a new year! We also had gone to Panchgani, which is also a hill station near Mahabaleshwar. There were some caves. We also enjoyed horse riding. Boating on Venna lake was also awesome!

Sunrise.. on the way to Mahabaleshwar!
The legendary source of the Krishna river is a spout from the mouth of a statue of a cow in the ancient temple of Mahadev in Old Mahabaleshwar. 4 other rivers come out from the cow's mouth apart from Krishna and they all travel some distance before merging into Krishna. These rivers are the Koyna, Venna (Veni), Savitri, and Gayatri.
There are lot of monkeys, which are ready to pounce on you, once they see food!
Venna lake
Heavenly rays!!
